VRRA Awards

Each year the VRRA presents special awards that acknowledge notable accomplishments by our members over the course of the racing season.

Many of the awards are presented in memory of VRRA alumni who are no longer with us but who worked tirelessly to promote the sport of vintage road racing while some are original awards from major sponsors who have supported road racing in Canada over the years.

Awards are presented at our Annual General Meeting in November.

#1 Plate

The #1 plate is our most prodigious award and is presented to the top VRRA rider each season. Originally decided by member ballot, it is now determined by the Executive Membership and the recipient may display the #1 plate on all their machines for the following season.

It is awarded to the most successful rider based on their series results during the racing season. Most points earned in a single class, total points earned in several classes and exceptional performances are all considered when awarding the #1 plate. The recipient is also awarded the prestigious MAX award presented annually at the Toronto Supershow.

The John McCaw Memorial Sportsman Award

This Trophy was originally created by Bob Coy in memory of young John McCaw, son of Gary & Mary McCaw, and was presented to Pat Nicholson at the 1993 Belknap Cup @ Loudon New Hampshire for her volunteer work at the USCRA events. John, a Cystic Fibrosis sufferer, was an avid supporter of his parents racing and supported the club by volunteering wherever he could. Mary was also our Competition Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator for a number of years.

Along with his parents, John was a much loved member of our events and once he reached 16 started racing himself. He was only able to race for a few years before the disease took his life. In 2011 Pat decided to resurrect the Trophy and present it annually to our most committed volunteers.
