The AGM is fast approaching and the time is now for a few good members to step forward. Every year a few of the prized executive position become available. At this AGM we will be seeking a new President, Vice President and Competition Co-ordinator. The normal term is two years and both Bob Whittleton, Technical Director, and Jamie Broad, Treasurer will be returning for the second year of their mandate. Retiring members, Tom Faulds, Stuart Pilkington and Dean Vollhoffer will vacate their posts but remain active in the club.
The VRRA is a volunteer organization and it is only through the efforts of many that we will continue to succeed. If you feel you can contribute to the future success of the club, working within the five person executive team, then allow yourself to be nominated for one of the available positions at this year's AGM.
What's expected of you? Only that you make your best effort to help the club move forward. Everyone has his or her own set of skills to bring to the position. The advantage of working as an executive team is that the duties can be shared in a way that maximizes everyone's abilities.
Some of the requirements of executive members include:
· negotiating contracts with race track
owners and various suppliers of services
· coordinating volunteer efforts at racing
and promotional events
· organizing racing schedules
· overseeing meetings during the winter
months
· setting policies and guidelines for
club activities
· serving as an example of sportsmanship
and good humour!
These tasks are not necessarily completed by the
executive members themselves. Many members of the club contribute
when and where they can to assist the executive in accomplishing their
goals. However, nothing happens without strong leadership.
Take the time to consider what the club has done for you over the years
and also to consider what you can do for your club in the coming year.
