May 6th - Mark Your Calendar Now
MCC will hold
its first Annual General Meeting on Saturday, May 6th, 2006 in the
Toronto area. At this meeting, our first elected Board of Directors will be
installed.
See our "Call for Director Nominations" article later in the
newsletter.
On the same date, as already announced,
the new Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum will hold its inaugural
Induction Banquet. MCC is proud to be the title sponsor of this important
event. This will mark the first time that Canadian motorcyclists and
motorcycling will be honoured in a standalone Hall of Fame. Up to now,
Canadian motorcyclists have been recognized as part of the Motorsports
Hall of Fame.
Nominations for induction into the Hall of Fame are still open. See our
"Hall of Fame Nominees Sought" article.

· Winning at the Motorcycle Shows
|
|
|
MCC has
been present with a booth at all the major motorcycle shows in Canada
since December, 2005. Many of you dropped by and completed a
questionnaire to be entered in our draws - an MCC jacket was awarded at
each show!
And the
winners (so far) are:
Walter Adamovich of Victoria Harbour, Ontario
Craig Somers, of Calgary, Alberta
James Huber, of Kitchener, Ontario
Michael Curtis, of Red Deer, Alberta
Lana Wong, of Richmond, BC
There
will be two more jackets awarded, one at the Quebec City Motorcycle and
ATV Show, and one at the Montreal Motorcycle show.

· CALL FOR MCC DIRECTOR NOMINATIONS
|
|
|

At the
MCC First Annual General Meeting, to be held on May 6, 2006, we will
install our first elected Board of Directors. Up to now, MCC has
been governed by its founding Board of Directors comprising those who
signed the Articles of Incorporation.
Before
the new slate of directors assumes office, we NEED NOMINATIONS. We
have several nominations in hand from our member clubs and associations,
but we are looking for more.
MCC
bylaws call of 13 directors to be elected from the provinces and
territories where MCC has members. In areas where there are no members
(e.g. Nunavut), the Board will appoint a director to hold office until
there are members in that jurisdiction.
Click
on the link below the download the nomination form. If you have any
questions, please contact us by email at info@motorcycling.ca

|

The new
Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum is asking for YOUR nominees for
induction. Do you know of someone, or an organization that has made
significant contributions to motorcycling in Canada? Is there a
competitor, or an aftermarket manufacturer who deserves to be recognized?
Maybe a long-established club or organization that's made a significant difference.
How
many inductees are planned for 2006?
In this inaugural year, at least ten (10) inductees are planned for.
What
are the categories?
Nominees can be Individuals, Dealers, Clubs, Organizations, Corporations,
Media, Associations, Volunteers, Authors/Journalists, Track Owners,
Officials, Sponsors, Competitors, Team Members.

· HOV Lanes - Ontario out-of-step with
other jurisdictions
|
|
|
In
early December, the Province of Ontario opened its first
provincially-regulated HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle, or Commuter) lanes on
Highways 403 and 404 coming in to the Greater Toronto Area.
PROBLEM
FOR MOTORCYCLES? Motorcycles will ONLY be allowed into these lanes if
they are carrying a passenger. This is contrary to the United States
experience, where BY FEDERAL LAW motorcycles must have access to HOV
lanes because it's a SAFER place to ride! In British Columbia, on the
Hwy. 99 HOV lanes, you'll see a "Motorcycles OK" sign, giving
full access to two-wheeled transportation at any time.
MCC
(and many individuals) have written to the Ontario Ministry of
Transportation staff. So far, the responses fall into two categories: a)
the standard response that "no changes are contemplated at this
time", or b) NO RESPONSE.
MCC has
been gathering signatures on a petition to use if we continue to receive
no satisfactory reply. You can help, IF YOU'RE AN ONTARIO CITIZEN, by
downloading the petition and gathering signatures.
Don't ride on those roads? SUPPORT YOUR FELLOW RIDERS! Some day, it may
be you riding that needs support.

· We Want Women... to write to MCC
|
|
|
If you
are a woman who rides a motorcycle or who is considering riding, the MCC
wants to hear from you! Share your thoughts, ideas and concerns through
the MCC website.
Women
represent 50 % of the population, yet motorcycling has been, in the main,
a male-oriented activity. It is heartening to see more women of all ages
taking up riding their own motorcycles in recent years, but I know from
personal experience that there are still difficult choices for women who
want to ride. We want your views, opinions, ideas and desires about
riding and motorcycling in general.
Please
send us an e-mail or letter for publication on the MCC web site and share
your views on motorcycling, it will inform others and may encourage more
women to enjoy motorcycling.
